Lumber Loads

While I wait for the various stages of weathering treatments to dry on the Micro Engineering open deck girder bridge for the river project, I try to work on smaller projects that are easy to push aside when the larger projects are ready for attention. A few months ago, I order a free sample sprue of lumber loads from Wheels of Time. They are nicely detailed but required some painting. After assembly (which requires no glue), I painted the loads with a light tan acrylic craft paint. I noticed that the paint was a bit thick and some of the detail was lost. After some research, I ordered Liquitex Flow-Aid which I will try out on the next painting project. Next, to add some knot detail, I blotted on a "country tan" color followed by a very small dot of raw umber (both craft acrylic paints). To tie it all together, I wrapped each end of the loads with dental floss (the ribbon type) painted with gloss black paint to simulate the metal bands usually found on this type of large lumber load.
